Pilot Captioning

23-04-2025: Captions ON-HOLD

We have currently DISABLED the Captions. There appears to be a bug with the supplier in the automatic assignment of the correct spoken language. This causes the generator to choose the wrong language for subtitling.

When the bug is fixed in a new release, the function will be reactivated. The planning as it looks now will be from the 2025-2026 academic year.

In Q4 of academic year 2024-2025, Collegerama will be running a pilot on captioning (Automated AI). This will provide captions for all recordings made in Q4. Depending on the quality of the automated captions, a decision will be made whether or not to continue with this captioning platform. The captions are made based on the audio; the quality of the audio is crucial for the generation of proper captions.

Errors will be made by the captioning software; Collegerama can’t review all generated captions. With the tests we have run up to now, we have seen good results. Some jargon is unknown to the captioning software, which results in strange captions. Captions can be adjusted after generation, but this is a cumbersome exercise. We hope to see the captioning improve in time.

Supported question
For students with a supported question and known to the study advisor, academic counsellor at the faculty or Horizon (central student counsellors) can submit a request for lectures to be subtitled and possibly recorded. This does not mean that this request will always be honored. After sending the form, Horizon and the relevant lecturer will always be contacted for any further follow-up actions.

You can fill in the form for this.
